After seeing one former Barcelona player make himself right at home at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger could go in for another, after Pedro Rodriguez reportedly handed in a transfer request.
Arsenal have been linked with Pedro plenty of times in the past, with Wenger finding the player perfect for his attacking ideas – someone who is versatile, can play across the forwardline and knows where the back of the net is.
Reports a few weeks ago suggested Pedro was Wenger's first choice in the summer transfer window, but the Arsenal manager turned his focus to Alexis Sanchez after new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique convinced the Spain international stay at the Camp Nou.
However, with Luis Suarez now returning to action for Barcelona, Pedro will find his options even more limited, with the 27-year-old only coming on as a substitute in the El Clasico loss to Real Madrid on Saturday.
Now Arsenal could land Pedro in the January transfer window, with the forward reportedly handing in a transfer request, according to the Daily Express.
It is debatable if Wenger needs another versatile forward in his ranks, considering the embarrassment of attacking riches at the Arsenal manager's disposal at the moment.
While Pedro is undoubted quality, the return of Theo Walcott from injury will only increase competition for places at Arsenal, despite the likes of Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil being injured.
What Arsenal desperately need at the moment is a central defender and a defensive midfielder, with Wenger more likely to spend money on strengthening his defensive department than his forwardline.
Arsenal need a player like William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon or Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin to act as a better screen for the defence, while bringing in a central defender in the January transfer window is extremely important.
With Pedro rated at over £20 million, it is unlikely that Wenger will make his move in the winter window, with Arsenal looking at strengthening different positions. But with Wenger's penchant for buying attacking players, irrespective of the need, you never know, especially if Pedro does become available at a tempting price.
