Arsenal have officially announced the signing of full-back Calum Chambers from Southampton for a reported fee which could rise up to £16 million.
The 19-year-old, who successfully underwent a medical at the Emirates ahead of his move, has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners.
"Calum Chambers has joined Arsenal from Southampton on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee," read a statement on the club's official website.
The versatile fullback is believed to be signed as backup for Mathieu Debuchy, who was also recently brought in as a direct replacement for the departed Bacary Sagna, who joined Manchester City on a free transfer.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who earlier admitted that he was taking a "gamble" by paying over the odds for an inexperienced player like Chambers, now says that he is certain that the youngster will do well at the Emirates.
"We are very pleased that Calum has agreed to join us. The way he adapted to the Premier League last season with Southampton at a young age shows he has tremendous quality," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.
"He has a lot of the attributes that we look for in a young player and I am sure he will do well with us."
Chambers, who has now become Arsenal's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona), Mathieu Debuchy (Newcastle United) and David Ospina (Nice), also expressed his delight at having moved to Arsenal.
"I am so happy to be signing for Arsenal. They are a team I have much admired for their playing style, and a team who have been one of the top sides in Europe for many years," the youngster told Arsenal official website.
"I'm looking forward to joining up with my new team-mates today and beginning preparation for the season ahead," he added. "I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone at Southampton FC for everything they have done for me and for making this move possible."
The Saints, who have now lost almost all of their star players including Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, also confirmed the news of Chambers' departure on their official website.
"Southampton Football Club can confirm that Calum Chambers has completed his move to Arsenal. The 19 year-old joins the Gunners for an undisclosed fee, having expressed a desire to leave St Mary's after making 25 appearances for the club," read a statement on the club's official website.
