English Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have received a major blow with Roma's striker Mattia Destro being lined up by AC Milan for loan.

It could be a huge coup for the Serie A giants if the Roma striker decides to sign for AC Milan.

The Daily Star reports that AC Milan have made a huge offer for the striker with a view of a permanent move in the region of around £12m.

Though AC Milan may be the front runner, the player was interested in EPL with Arsenal on the horizon.

"Arsenal for me? The rumours are good, I'm happy for them. This is the proof that I'm doing my work well," Destro was quoted in Tuttosport in November.

"There are so many things that I can improve on. I must never stop and continue to learn new things.

"The coach encourages me a lot, he is teaching me some things, and I try to show my skills on the pitch, as well as the confidence he has in me."

Arsenal might have an array of strikers such as Yaya Sonogo, Joel Campbell, Oliver Giroud and Danny Welbeck and Lucas Podolski, but they have already sent Podolski on loan. The Gunners might be keen on a loan deal with Sonogo and Campbell as well, so Destro's move would have made perfect sense.

Destro joined Roma from Siena in 2012, replacing present Liverpool forward, Fabio Borini then. Since then the player has scored an impressive 23 goals from 52 matches for Roma. The player has also represented Italy, scoring a goal so far in his international career.

But, it is not only the Gunners who were interested in signing the Roma striker, as the Reds were also on the look-out for a striker, with their forward line being a subject of scrutiny.

Mario Balotelli has not scored a single goal in the EPL so far, while Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have failed to impress Brendan Rodgers.

The situation has been so desperate for Brendan Rodgers' side forcing Raheem Sterling to play as the false number nine, despite primarily being a winger.

With their successful striker from last season, Daniel Sturridge being injured, the Reds boss was interested in acquiring the services of Detro, who could have been a huge addition to the club.
