Premier League teams do not really make it that big in the UEFA Champions League, it's a known fact. When was the last time any English club won the Champions League title? Even we need to dig deep to get the answer.
After the start of the 21st century, only thrice have English clubs lifted the coveted trophy. Liverpool in the 2004-05 season, Manchester United in the 2007-08 season and Chelsea in 2011-12 season.
The good news for Premier League fans, this time around, is all the aforementioned teams are a part of the Champions League 2017-18 season.
While Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will be a part of the group stages of the elite European competition next season, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool will have to battle it out in the play-off rounds to make it to the group stages.
How the English clubs made it to Champions League 2017-18:
- Chelsea - Premier League champions
- Manchester United - Europa League champions
- Tottenham Hotspur - second in the Premier League
- Manchester City - third in the Premier League
- Liverpool - fourth in the Premier League
Now, let us spare a thought for Arsenal, should we?
Arsene Wenger faces losing his job at the end of the season, possibly even if the Gunners manage to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final 2017 on Sunday May 27.
Arsenal came in fifth in the Premier League this season, losing a Champions League spot after 20 years.
