An Indian Army officer was killed in an accident during a fire-power demonstration in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district after being hit by a stray splinter on Tuesday.
Major Dhruv Yadav was struck by a splinter from an artillery shell during a fire-power demonstration at the Pokhran range, NDTV reported.
The accident occurred at about 7 pm on Tuesday.
Major Yadav, who hailed from Gurgaon, was on a tank during the training exercise of the army's 75 Armoured Regiment. He suffered injuries to his neck.
An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and a post-mortem is being conducted.
Major Yadav, who was in his late twenties, was expecting a child with his wife, who is eight months pregnant.
Last month, an Indian Army jawan was killed in friendly fire' in Jammu and Kashmir, after a patrolling unit reportedly mistook another for insurgents and opened fire.
