Two of Barcelona's biggest superstars at the moment -- Luis Suarez and club legend Lionel Messi will be pitted against each other on the international stage on Thursday during their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier. Argentina, currently third in the ten-team South American group take on Uruguay, who are atop the table.
The interest over this match remains paramount, especially after what transpired with both teams during the Copa America Centenario earlier this year. While Uruguay got knocked out of the group stages and Suarez was left all angry with not being able to play a part in his team's final match, Argentina were defeated in the final of the tournament by Chile. But an even bigger news dominated the news headlines -- Messi announcing retirement from football.
Fortunately for all the football fans around the world, Messi announced that he wanted to play again with his national team and made the return after a brief international retirement stint.
If all goes well on Thursday, we might see the four-time FIFA Ballon d'Or winner play a part in the match. FC Barcelona had said that Messi has a sore left hamstring, but Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza remains hopeful of the Argentine's participation in the match.
"He's OK, he's OK. We are going to take good care of him," Bauza told Argentina daily Ole. "But I have faith that he will be OK for the match against Uruguay."
As for Suarez, the former Liverpool star, who is fortunately injury-free at the moment, is expected to play a major role for Uruguay in the game. The star striker has three goals from two appearances in the La Liga this season.
