Indian smartphone market is one of the most fierce and competitive industries across the world. From budget smartphones to flagship phones, everything gets considerable amount of interest from consumers. After fighting an uphill battle for years, Nokia is finally ready to march alongside some of the biggest players in the industry as it prepares to launch Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones in India on June 13.
The official launch date for the Nokia trio was revealed earlier this week, when the company sent out invites to the media. With less than a week before the launch of Nokia 3, 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones in India, HMD Global – the firm handling Nokia's smartphone business – is putting some final touches on the upcoming event.
Nokia has already made its presence felt in India with the launch of Nokia 3310, which triggered nostalgia in many Indians. But the latest smartphone series will revive the Nokia brand as one of the key players in the budget and mid-range category.
Nokia 3 is the entry-level model priced at €139 (around $147 / Rs. 9,824), while Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 fall under mid-range category with €189 (around $200 / Rs. 13,357) and €229 (around $243 / Rs. 16,183) price tags, respectively. The pricing of these smartphones in India will certainly play a crucial role in their success as the market is flooded with alternatives from brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Moto, OPPO, Vivo and others.
But it is exciting to see Nokia make a comeback with a refreshing brand image. We had the chance to get a hands-on experience on all three Nokia smartphones at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona and they seemed pretty good. The pricing, however, could be less to compete with the rivals.
Starting with the Nokia 3, the handset sports a 5-inch HD display, a MediaTek MT6737 chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. The optics are powered by 8MP rear facing cameras with f/2.0 aperture on both sides of the phone. Powering the entire phone is a 2,650mAh battery.
Moving on to the Nokia 5, the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 430 chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage and a 5.2-inch HD display. The smartphone features a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, dual LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP front snapper with same aperture size. A 3,000mAh battery runs the show for Nokia 5.
Finally, the show-stopper Nokia 6 takes the spotlight with its premium looks and specs. It has a classy design with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 430 chipset, 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. The smartphone has a 16MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF along with an 8MP front snapper same as the Nokia 5. Nokia 6 also shares the same battery as the Nokia 5, but it comes with fast charging tech.
Given these specifications, Nokia smartphones are primed for success in India. Pricing the phones appropriately, especially the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 in the range of other Snapdragon 430-powered phones, is crucial to the good showing in India.
