Piaggio Group, the parent company for Italian brand Aprilia, has announced the price of the SR150 scooter. The first Aprilia model to be manufactured in India at the Piaggio's India plant in Baramati, Maharashtra, has been priced at Rs. 65,000 (introductory pricing) and the market launch will take place in August. The company has informed that the booking will be open shortly.
"We have received a favourable response to all our launches in the country and with the launch of the Aprilia SR 150, we aim to increase our footprint across the geography. The design aesthetics of the SR 150 reflect the sporty character of the Aprilia brand with a light weight engine which creates a new category in India's the scooter segment,"said Stefano Pelle, managing director and CEO of Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (PVPL), in a statement.
The Aprilia SR 150 is a sportier avatar of a scooter with beak-styled front apron. The twin headlamp has been placed at the front apron, while the turn indicators are positioned at the handle bar. It gets an aggressive side and rear profile with sharp body panels. The instrument cluster is a simple affair with a twin pod analog unit for speedometre, fuel gauge and odometre.
The Aprilia SR 150 will be powered by a 154.4cc 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is already powering the Vespa 150 in the country. The powertrain is expected to generate 11.8bhp and 11Nm of torque mated to a CVT unit.
The scooter will employ telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the back. It will run on 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped around 120/70 spec wheels. The braking will be taken care of by 220mm disc at front and 140mm drum brakes at rear.
The scooter will be sold via Piaggio Group's distributor network across the country, the company said.
