IBTimes UK film critic Amy West gives you the low-down on the hottest movies set to be released in cinemas this April.
Captain America: Civil War
Batman v Superman may have dominated cinema screens in March, but April will see two more superheroes go head-to-head, this time in Marvels Captain America: Civil War. However, while fights do take place, this one is more of a disagreement between friends than a blood-thirsty brawl.
Cramming in more comic book characters than you can fit in a large mini-bus, the movie brings together existing fan favourites such as Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine and Falcon, as well as new recruits Vision, Scarlet Witch and enemy-turned-ally Bucky Barnes, AKA the Winter Soldier. Also making his eagerly-anticipated debut to the Marvel Comic Universe is Black Panther, gearing up for his solo outing in 2018.
The Huntsman: Winters War
Part-prequel, part-spin off to the 2012 film Snow White And The Huntsman, the film focuses on Charlize Therons Queen Ravenna and her descent into evil, as she pursues her dream of staying the fairest in all the kingdom. This time, we see her go up against her equally powerful sister Freya – played by Emily Blunt – who threatens to steal her crown and avenge a family tragedy.
Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Eric the Huntsman, with Jessica Chastain also starring as Hemsworths fellow warrior Sara. If youre in the mood for an adult fairy tale, then this is the one for you.
The Jungle Book
Directed by Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, this is a live-action adaptation of the 1967 Disney classic. The family adventure follows the same story as the original, which told the tale of orphan boy Mowgli who was raised in the jungle by a pack of protective wolves, a bear with a penchant for a song or two and a very serious and judgemental panther.
On top of its truly beautiful visuals, the film boasts a stellar voice cast including Scarlett Johannsson as Kaa, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan and Bill Murray as Baloo.
