Apple Working on Monster 6.0-Inch iPhone: Report

As Apple fans wait in anticipation for the launch of Apple's two new iPhones on Tuesday (10 September), the American technology giant is already chalking out plans to make big-screen iPhones.

Sources of Wall Street Journal have revealed that the Cupertino firm is testing smartphones with sizes ranging from 4.8 inches to as big as a 6.0-inch display.

Apple currently offers iPads and iPods with different shapes in the market. Now, the company seems to adopt the same business strategy for its smartphone segment, like its arch-rival and current smartphone leader Samsung which also offers handsets in different sizes and price ranges.

The smartphone penetration in developed markets like North America and Europe have already begun to show signs of saturation. Now, Apple has no option but to explore a new business in the east, especially India and China.

Market watch dog, International Data Corporations, recently reported that the India witnessed a 30-percent growth in 5.0-inch, 6.99-inch smartphone business quarter-to-quarter and grew 17 times in terms of year-on-year sales. 

On 10 September, Apple is all set to launch two smartphones - one premium metal-clad iPhone 5S and a low cost plastic-based iPhone 5C.

iPhone 5S will reportedly flaunt a 4.0-inch retina display screen with IGZO technology and run on the new iOS v7.0 with 1GB RAM. It is said to pack a new Apple A7 quad-core processor and fingerprint scanner on its home button and a high-end camera on the rear side with dual-LED flash support to enhance low-light photography experience. Apple is expected to sell the smarphone in three colour variants - white, gold champagne and black (graphite grey).

On the other hand, the low-cost iPhone 5C which is targeted at the emerging market is said to ship with a tough polycarbonate shell with a 4.0-inch display having 1136x640p resolution. It is expected to run on the dual-core Apple A5 processor with 1GB and may come in multiple coloured covers namely blue, green, white, yellow and red.
