Cupertino-based technology major Apple has registered huge growth in Watch sales across the globe, thanks to the Watch Series 3, said market watchdog Canalys.
Since the launch of the first generation Watch, it has steadily grown its market share and just before the Watch Series 3 made its debut, Apple dethroned Rolex as the numero uno global watch manufacturer and seller.
Coming to the second quarter of 2018, the latest Apple smart wearable, despite the competition from Fitbit and Garmin, has sold more than 3.5 million units, 30 percent year-on-year growth over the same time period the previous year.
An interesting aspect of the latest Canalys quarterly report is that the Apple Watch shipments to Asia (excluding China) surpassed 250,000 units, with the LTE version accounting for about 60 percent. The cellular connected Apple Watch Series 3 was the best-shipping smartwatch in Asia in Q2 2018.
"Apple's decision to expand internationally with operators has quickly reaped rewards in the Asia Pacific," Since the launch of the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple has formed partnerships with operators in Australia, Japan and Singapore, with Thailand, India and South Korea added in the last quarter," Jason Low, Canalys Senior Analyst said.
It doesn't surprise many as the Apple Watch Series 3 LTE is the most advanced smart-wearable in the market. Its USP is its in-built eSIM (embedded SIM), which is one-hundredth the size of a traditional SIM.
With this advanced technology, users need not even have to subscribe to a new SIM, as it shares same as the one in your iPhone and to capture radio signal, they developed custom plate right below the display.
Once paired, users can leave the iPhone home and take a walk to the park with just the Watch Series 3 Cellular. If you get any calls, you can answer on the smart wearable, listen to music and also book cabs.
Apple Watch is also known around the world for life-saving capabilities of its accurate heart rate monitoring sensor. Over the years, we have seen several people surviving life-threatening situations thanks to Apple Watch. They have personally written letters to Tim Cook to appreciate the company.
Even the fitness tracking features of the Apple Watch is praiseworthy. The watchOS comes with intuitive features which help users attain fitness goals without being too nagging, but with subtle and encouraging messages.
In India, Airtel and Reliance Jio offer Watch Series 3 LTE with lucrative data packs and financing options. More people are getting health conscious and the carrier networks' incentives, that's probably why the Apple smart wearable is getting huge traction in the country.
"Operators in these markets (Asia) are willing to resell connected devices other than smartphones that can help them generate extra revenue. India is a surprising addition to the list of countries. But this is a good strategy by Airtel and Reliance Jio to retain their high-value customers in a bid to minimize churn in a cut-throat market," Low added.
