Sales figures of Apple Watch are finally looking good after suffering a major setback in the previous quarter. Holiday season is considered Apple's strongest as sales of its entire product range get a significant boost then.
The sales of its wearable tech, Apple Watch, during the first week of holiday shopping, have been the greatest in the product's history, Apple's CEO Tim Cook said in an email statement sent to Reuters. Cook added that the company is on track to achieve the best quarter for Apple Watch.
"Our data shows that Apple Watch is doing great and looks to be one of the most popular holiday gifts this year," Cook said in the email statement. "Sales growth is off the charts. In fact, during the first week of holiday shopping, our sell-through of Apple Watch was greater than any week in the product's history. And as we expected, we're on track for the best quarter ever for Apple Watch."
Cook did not reveal the specific sales numbers for Apple Watch. Even in its earnings reports, Apple Watch is categorised under "other products", which includes iPods and Apple TV, making it difficult to truly determine the product's overall success.
But Cook's comments on Apple Watch sales come just a day after research firm IDC published its report on Apple Watch sales in the last quarter. According to the report, sales of Apple Watch in the last quarter were down 71 percent year on year.
As per IDC's estimations, the Cupertino-based tech titan sold 1.1 million units in Q3 2016. But the holiday sales weren't included, which would have changed the outlook of the report. With Cook's optimism towards achieving the best quarter for Apple Watch, it will be interesting to see the next quarterly report next year.
