With just a week left before the Apple special event, price and possible monikers of the 2018 iPhones have surfaced online.
After disclosing the promotional pictures of the 2018 iPhones, 9to5Mac is back with more details pertaining to the official names. It claims that Apple plans to unveil a low-end model with LCD display dubbed as 'iPhone' and not iPhone 9 as previously rumoured.
The Cupertino-based company was also rumoured to name the top-end model as the iPhone Xs Plus, but now sources indicate it will be called as the 'iPhone Xs Max' and the generic model, the true successor of the iPhone X (2017) will be called as iPhone Xs. Considering the good track record of the 9to5Mac, we believe this might be the real deal.
In a related development, German blog Macerkopf has got hold of the price details of the upcoming iPhones and as expected, they will be really expensive. Among the three, the iPhone Xs Max is said to have a starting price of €1149 (Forex value: around $1,337/Rs 96,064).
The generic iPhone Xs' base model will cost €909 (Forex value: approx. $1,058/Rs 75,981:) and the low-end LCD-based iPhone price will start with €799 (Forex value around $930/Rs 66,787). It has to be noted that the price is indicative of the European market only and not global. In the US, the prices are likely to be much less but will breach $1000 mark for bigger storage models.
As far as India is concerned, new iPhones will be priced anywhere between Rs 60,000 and Rs 1,10,000, if not more. Rumour has it that Apple might launch three models- 64GB, 256GB and 512GB, but the top-end model might be made available only in select markets.
Apple iPhone Xs series: What we know so far
As said before, we are expecting Apple to unveil three new mobiles— the iPhone Xs Max, the iPhone Xs and the iPhone (LCD).
As you can see in the aforementioned naming theme, 2018 is the 'S' cycle year. Apple will keep the same design language as the original iPhone X(2017) but will incorporate incremental upgrades in terms of internal hardware particularly in terms of processor, battery and camera.
All three upcoming iPhones are expected to house a 7nm class Apple A12 processor, enhanced True Depth front-camera with FaceID capability. They will also be coming with a premium shell having a good blend of metal and glass. Inside, it will be incorporated with improved wireless charging coil for faster charging.
Rumour has it that Apple might bring eSIM (embedded) to feature the new iPhones support dual-SIM capabilities in select markets particularly in Asia and developing regions. However, we are unsure, which of the three models will come with this feature.
The top-end iPhone Xs Plus is said to sport a massive 6.5-inch AMOLED screen and a bigger battery. The generic iPhone Xs will be the true successor of the iPhone X (2017) and will retain 5.8-inch AMOLED screen size. Both the models will sport a stainless steel frame and a glass on top.
On the other hand, the LCD-based iPhone is said to be the most affordable among the three. It will be coming with a 6.1-inch screen on the front and low-cost and yet sturdy aluminium-based shell with glass on top. It is said to come packed with a 2,600 (or 2700)mAh battery.
Besides the iPhone XS series, Apple is tipped to showcase a new line of Watch (Series 4) and iPad Pro (2018) with a wider display, faster, powerful processor and big battery capacity.
The company is hosting the Apple Special Event at 10:00 am PDT (10:30 pm IST) on September 12 at Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.
