Cupertino based technology major, Apple on Monday announced that company has accounted record breaking sales of its newly launched smartphones- one premium iPhone 5S and cheaper iPhone 5C.
Apple first began selling two iPhones on 20 September in 11 major markets- US, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Singapore, and Puerto Rico. Within three days, the combined sales of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C crossed 9 million. Even though Apple failed to give the break down of shipment numbers of these two devices, the company did account sales that was much above of what market analysts had predicted. The numbers are almost double as compared to the iPhone 5 sales (5 million plus) recorded last year.
Buoyed by the record sales figure, Apple stock value jumped to $490.64, up $23.23 (close to 5-percent) at the end of Monday, reported Wall Street Journal.
It has to be noted the soaring sales can be attributed to the fact the Apple for the first time has included China in its fold to launch its handsets among its privileged developed markets in the phase-one of the company release plan.
"This is our best iPhone launch yet-more than nine million new iPhones sold-a new record for first weekend sales," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
"The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."
In addition to iPhone sales, Apple also announced that the new iOS v7.0, which was released on 18 September for free download, is now being run on more than 200 million devices (iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch) making it the fastest software upgrade in history.
Despite recording huge sales figure, the Cupertino company is still tight lipped about the next launch phase of iPhones in Tier-2 markets like India and Middle East.
