Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is set to release after about three years of the first movie's debut. The box office success will matter, obviously. But Marvel will also begin the chain of superhero movies releasing this year.

The summer release also stands crucial for the future of Marvel. In an interview, director James Gunn had said that the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will help build the upcoming ten years of Marvel. And now, it looks like the studio is ticking off one movie at a time with the aim to set up the future Gunn spoke about starting with a spinoff featuring the adorable Groot.
Though a baby in the Guardians sequel, Marvel head Kevin Feige revealed the baby Groot will grow up in the Avengers: Infinity War. Regardless of his height, the character is set to have his own movie soon. Talking to USA Today, the voice behind Groot, Vin Diesel confirmed that the discussion has been put on the table.
"James Gunn has always wanted a Rocket and Groot movie. I know that Disney is very much into being successful. And the most successful poster in Disney's future is the poster that has 'Groot vs. Hulk.' ... (The world) cannot wait to see it," Diesel said.
But what has Disney or Gunn have to say about the move? The website reached out to the GotG director for a confirmation. While he did not deny the news, he brushed off the claim stating, "Vin has a lot of ideas. I don't know where he comes up with these things!" Gunn joked. "I love Vin."
This is not the only idea the studio has for its future. Gunn is considering a key role for Sylvester Stallone in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe. Talking to Toronto Sun, the director revealed, "My plan is to see more of [Stallone's character]. I'm not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we'll have to see about that, but it's our plan to see more of Stallone. Kevin and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it's going to go. We plan to see the rest of them in the future."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is releasing on May 5 and the cast will reprise their roles for Avengers: Infinity War around the same time next year.
