Anurag Kashyap's next psychological thriller "Ugly" at its Asia premiere left audience of film-makers, media and army trainees numb at the recently-held third Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF) . Earlier in 2014, the movie successfully created buzz at the Cannes International Film Festival.
The thriller movie about complex relationships and the stupendous performances left the audience speechless. The film is produced by Phantom Films and DAR Motion Pictures.
The filmmaker, who was present for the screening, requested the media, saying: "Please do not reveal anything about the film on social media or in the media as it will affect the film when it releases." reported Times of India.
Kashyap, known for movies like "Dev D" and "Black Friday", before the screening of the film at the third edition of Film Festival on Saturday, shared his efforts behind the making of the film. He is currently working on his upcoming movie, "Bombay Velvet"
"Everyone was gung-ho after 'Gangs Of Wasseypur', and that's when I thought that 'now's the time to do it'. I kind of made 'Ugly' without telling a lot of people because knowing how scared our producers and studios are, they wouldn't have let the film be made," said the filmmaker.
The movie showcased at the Ladakh film festival was a different version of the one screened for the international audience at Cannes Film Festival.
"Someone had seen some rushes of 'Ugly' in February or March (this year) and asked me to rush it for Cannes. And the film has been edited again after the Cannes screening. Also, I was fighting a court battle, which I have lost... so now, 'Ugly' is finally releasing on Sept 19 with the 'Smoking is injurious to health' logo, which I totally detest," Kashyap added.
After the screening of the film, the audience truly understood what he tried to make people understand through the movie and the "ugliness" in the characters seemed to make a lasting impact on the audience.
The movie will feature, Ronit Roy, Rahul Bhat, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vinit Kumar Singh, Surveen Chawla and Vipin Sharma. "Ugly" will hit the theatres on 19 September 2014.
On the other hand, Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar is all set to release on 28 November 2014.
