Director Anurag Kashyap and actress Kalki Koechlin have hit a rocky patch in their marriage with the couple announcing a separation.
The critically-acclaimed director and the French-origin actress have denied divorce as of now.
"Me and Kalki are separating, we are taking time off from each other to figure things out. W0e are not divorcing. We request the media to please respect our privacy and give us our space and not speculate. Thank you, Kalki and Anurag," they said, reported Press Trust of India (PTI)
Kalki and Anurag tied the knot in 2011 in a traditional South Indian style. Reports of trouble in paradise emerged after Anurag was said to have become close to Huma Qureshi, the lead actress in his film "Gangs of Wasseypur." Kalki seemed unperturbed by the rumours.
Huma also denied the liaison with Anurag saying it was rather a cordial relationship as actor and director.
Kalki's move of distancing from her husband has not gone unnoticed. Just when Anurag deleted his Twitter account, Kalki had refused to speak on his behalf and bluntly said, "It's because I'm still on Twitter that everybody thinks I'm his spokesperson. But I'm not going to keep answering these questions."
"He's going through a lot - tax problems and a lot of things. So, I think he just needs his space, which is a great idea because otherwise he is always lashing out and fighting on Twitter. He's just wasting his energy. It's great that he's gone off Twitter," the actress told The Times of India in a previous interview.
