A woman was allegedly paraded naked by her husband on Sunday in Rajasthan's Kankara village, 115km north-west of Jaipur. Recently, another woman too underwent a similar humiliation in the state on the orders of a kangaroo court.
After a heated argument, the man threw his 42-year-old wife out of the house in a half-naked state. The woman was then paraded naked with a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth, after which she fainted, according to eyewitnesses.
According to the police, the man often beats his wife after getting drunk. But this time, he reportedly kicked her out of the house after an argument and threatened the villagers when they tried to stop him.
"We have been given this (above-mentioned) version by their (the couple's) 10-year-old daughter. We do not have reasons to disbelieve her. We have arrested the husband," Superintendent of Police Ravi told IANS.
"We came to know about the incident on Sunday night after which an FIR has been filed against the husband," he said.
Similarly, another woman was paraded naked on a donkey on the orders of a kangaroo court in Rajsamand district of the state earlier this month. The humiliating procession was carried out as a punishment after the "court" declared that the 45-year-old killed her nephew.
Also in July, a tribal woman from Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district was gang-raped by 10 men including her husband, before being paraded naked and was made to drink urine, when she asked for water.
