India has proven to be a lucrative hub for smartphone makers, prompting global players to invest heavily in the market. While big players like Apple and Samsung have prioritised India as a key smartphone market, OEMs including Xiaomi, Lenovo, Meizu, OPPO and Vivo raised their stakes in the subcontinent.
Now, a new player from China is looking to challenge the existing rivals from its home market in India. iVOOMi marked its entry into India with the launch of two budget smartphones – Me 1 and Me 1+ - as part of the new Me series.
It behooves to recall that Xiaomi forayed into Indian market with budget smartphones, but the growing fame and success drove the company to explore the mid-range and premium categories later on. Xiaomi is now one of the prominent smartphone brands in the country.
iVOOMi is looking to follow the same strategy. But the bigger question is whether it can replicate Xiaomi's success in India.
"We are glad to announce the launch of our new Smartphone series. The "ME" Series is designed to offer next generation experience to the customers. With the launch of this series and having ShopClues.com as the marketplace and our partners to sell our products, we aim to bring unbeatable proposition, price and products in the mid-segment category," Ashwin Bhandari, CEO of iVOOMi India, said in a statement.
The new Me 1 and Me 1+ hold a lot of potential to make it big in India, thanks to the siblings' competitve pricing and impressive features.
iVOOMi Me 1 and Me 1+ feature 5-inch HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass, 4G VoLTE dual SIM support, 3,000mAh battery, 1.2GHz quad-core processor and Android Marshmallow, primed for a future Android Nougat update.
While Me 1 smartphone comes with 8GB storage and 1GB RAM, Me 1+ has 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. The Me 1 is priced at Rs. 3,999 and Me 1+ costs Rs. 4,999. Both smartphones are available exclusively on Shopclues.com.
