Critics slammed Salman Khan starrer Race 3 as it turned out to be one of the most disappointing films of 2018 due to its poorly written script, weak screenplay, cringe-worthy songs and crippled narration. Despite getting panned by the movie-goers, the movie still managed to garner more than Rs 160 crores at the domestic box office owing to Salman's huge fan base in India
Anil Kapoor was the only actor from the Race franchise who wished to be the part of the third instalment in a row. All the other actors of the successful franchise (excluding Jacqueline Fernandez who appeared in Race 2) got replaced with new ones along with the director Abbas-Mustan (who directed Race and Race 2).
If you ask Anil on why he chose to be a part of such a terrible script, he replied with all honesty that he did the multi-starrer action thriller only to earn big bucks.
"I did it for the money. Whenever I sign a film, I obviously think of the amount of money that it will fetch me. Acting is my profession, it earns me my daily bread and butter. If I do not give importance to earning enough money, how will I run my kitchen? My wife will never allow me into the house if I do not earn money, so it's important to me," Anil Kapoor was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Race 3, which released on June 15, garnered negative reviews from critics and audience alike who panned the Remo D'Souza-directorial. The movie failed to live upto the mark of its first two instalments Race and Race 2 which were declared commercially hit.
Anil Kapoor played the role of Shamsher Singh who runs his illegal arms dealing business with the help of his kids — Sooraj (Saqib Saleem), Sanjana (Daisy Shah) and their cousin Sikander (Salman Khan).
Race 3 hinted at the fourth instalment before the credits rolled and Remo D'Souza has reportedly been removed from the director's seat.
Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Fanney Khan which also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao in prominent roles. He will be seen playing the role of a taxi driver who struggles to make his daughter's dream of becoming a musician come true.
"Fanney Khan is one character that I have resonated with the most so far. Not only do I identify with his struggles, but I also relate to his passion and his relationship with his daughter. This journey is similar to mine in many ways. I may not have played a taxi driver on-screen before, but I've played many roles, who have risen from ground up through sheer will and determination," Anil Kapoor said.
The movie will hit the theatres on August 3.
