Delhi sub-inspector's son arrested for raping widow and her daughter for three weeks
The accused, who had been identified as Sanjay Kumar Giri alias Sonu, had been on life support at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital. He had been caught re- handed by the girl's family who found him forcing himself on the girl.
According to reports, the girl had gone to have snacks at a roadside eatery when the accused lured her to a deserted spot near Sanjay Lake on Thursday night. When the girl did not return home, her mother began looking for her. It was then that a neighbour told her he had seen Giri taking the girl towards the lake.
When the child's mother reached the spot, they found the accused trying to rape her. According to the Time of India, the girls's family had claimed that Giri had disrobed the girl.
The mob attacked the accused with stones and sticks and kept on hitting him until he fell unconscious. The police then rushed him to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital and later referred him to GTB Hospital, where he died during treatment. His body has been handed over to his family.
While the accused was booked under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), a case under sections of culpable homicide has been registered against the locals.
According to the TOI, the accused was a carpenter who used to live in the same colony. He had lured the girl into the park by offering her sweets.
Meanwhile, Sonu's family have claimed that he was killed as he had an argument with the child's father a few days ago. "He was beaten when he tried to prevent a group of men from snatching his belongings. Later he was accused of raping a child," said Ajay, Sonu's brother.
