Finnish developers Rovio, who are creators of Angry Birds video game, have announced a new addition to the franchise, Angry Birds: Transformers, which will make an appearance on multiple platforms.
This game will follow Rovio's another successful spin-off Angry Birds: Star Wars. Rovio and Hasbro's collaboration will not only result in a new mobile game but also merchandise and Telepods product.
Telepods are figurines that will appear in the app when placed on smartphone or tablet's camera, which will bring in bonus abilities into the game.
"We're really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds" said Blanca Juti, chief marketing officer of Rovio, in a press release. "This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today. People are going to love it!"
John Frascotti, chief marketing officer at Hasbro promised fans that the game will be fun to play and will have a new story and characters. He also said that this collaboration will introduce innovative ideas like Telepod platforms that will engage with the consumers. He also added that the game will help kids and families and will be a "completely immersive branded experience." It will feature "Autobirds" and "Deceptihogs."
Telepod product will allow players to teleport their favourite character into the game, also allowing them to capitalize on the unique powers of the characters.
Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Go! product lines are the result of successful collaboration between Rovio and Hasbro. Angry Birds Stella TELEPODS line is another venture by the duo that will release in September 2014.
The release of Angry Birds Transformers has not yet been announced.
Ever since, Rovio released its first video game, Angry Birds in 2009, the company has not looked back, rolling out video titles, movie, television series, spin offs, toys, board games, Telepods and soft drinks. There have been eight main games based on the franchise.
Angry Birds is a game that allows players to catapult birds into structures targeting the pigs.
