Dhanush starrer "Anegan", which got a fantastic opening worldwide, failed to beat the business record of his previous movie, "Velaiyilla Pattathari", in the United States.
"Anegan" was released in 45 screens and had opened its account by earning $105,070 (₹65.36 lakh) in its first weekend. The second weekend collection of the Tamil movie is yet to be revealed and it is being speculated that the film has collected approximately ₹75-80 lakh. Thus, the latest film has clearly failed to beat the records of "Velaiyilla Pattathari".
"Velaiyilla Pattathari" got an amazing opening in the United States as the Tamil movie had grossed $172,085 (₹1.04 crore) in the first weekend. By the end of its second weekend, the film had earned ₹1.30 crore and the total collection in the United States had ended at approximately ₹1.41 crore.
Traders had expected "Anegan" to improve its performance after the first weekend as it had managed to impress the audience and good word-of-mouth usually helps the movie make better business. But, the Tamil movie does not seem to have had a great weekend in the United States. At this pace, the film is unlikely to beat the record of "Velaiyilla Pattathari" in the US.
However, Dhanush's Bollywood movie "Shamitabh" has done really well in the US. It has earned ₹1.76 crore by the end of its third weekend from three screens. The credit for its success could not be given entirely to Dhanush as Bollywood's Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan is also part of the film. Nonetheless, this movie remains the highest earning film till date for Dhanush in the US .
Coming back to "Anegan", the Tamil movie is riding high on positive reviews and it has already been declared an average grosser. The film is produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram and directed by KV Anand.
