Dhanush's good form at the box office continues as his latest movie "Anegan" also turned out to be a profitable venture. The Tamil movie has made a total business of ₹55 crore worldwide.
Behindwoods reports that "Anegan" made ₹55 crore worldwide by the end of its third week in theatres. The biggest contribution in its total business has come from Tamil Nadu, where the film has raked in ₹35 crore.
"According to industry sources, the film has grossed around 35 crores in Tamil Nadu, while the worldwide gross is said to be close to ₹55 crores," the website claimed. Reports say that not only the producer, but distributors and exhibitors have made profits from the movie.
In this, Dhanush returned after the success of "Velaiyilla Pattathari", which had also made business of over ₹60 crore in three weeks. But the profit margin was pretty high in the previous movie as it was not an expensive project.
This clearly shows the increasing popularity of Dhanush in Kollywood. Of late, his smartness in picking up the stories and delivering good returns for the makers have become his highlights.
"Anegan", which carried a good pre-talk, opened to positive reviews. The Tamil film had raked in ₹6.55 crore in Tamil Nadu from three Southern states (Tamil Nadu (₹5.8 cr.), Karnataka(₹35 lakh) and Kerala (₹ 40 Lakh). It reportedly earned ₹4.8 crore on the second day and ₹5.5 crore on the third day to take its first weekend total to ₹16.1 crore.
The movie maintained its grip at major theatres despite facing tough competition from movies like Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal", which was released on 5 February, and Sivakarthikeyan's "Kaaki Sattai", which released last week.
"Anegan" is directed by KV Anand and produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram. Amyra Dastur and veteran actor Karthik are seen in key roles in the film, which has Harris Jayaraj's music and Anthony's editing.
