Dhanush starrer "Anegan" has opened to a positive response not only in India but also at overseas box office. In the opening weekend, the Tamil film has done good business in key centres like US and UK.
In the first weekend, "Anegan" has collected $105,070 (₹65.36 lakh) from the US. The film has been released in 45 screens and the movie enjoyed good occupancy in the opening weekend. Traders are now curiously waiting to see whether the Tamil movie will beat the record of Dhanush's Hindi movie "Shamitabh", which has raked in $276,959 (₹1.72 crore) so far.
"Anegan" has earned $3,359 (₹2.08 lakh) in Canada from three screens in the first weekend. In the recent months, Vikram's "I" has made a good business in this circuit where the film has collected $440,049(₹2.73 crore).
In the UK box office, Dhanush's film has raked in £40,084 (₹38.45 lakh) from 19 screens. The other Tamil movie, which did well last weekend here, was "Yennai Arindhaal". Ajith's movie has, so far, made ₹1.39 crore from this region and still had 19 screens in its second weekend.
However, in the other parts of the world, trade reports say that "Anegan" has done quite well. The film has done stupendous business in Malaysia. But the figures are yet to be out.
In domestic box office, "Anegan" earned about ₹15 crore in the opening weekend in Tamil Nadu alone. The film had a good occupancy in the first weekend. The response in Chennai for the Kollywood movie was excellent as the film made ₹1.2 crore from 276 shows.
"Anegan" has been released in 701 screens worldwide. The film has hit the screens in 390 theatres in Tamil Nadu, 91 in Kerala, 50 in Karnataka and 170 in foreign countries. Following the good word-of-mouth, the screen count of the film is expected to increase in the coming days.
