Android One series devices will soon get to taste the sweet candy-flavoured Lollipop via OTA (Over-The-Air) in India.
Despite being an exclusive affiliate of the Google, Android One series devices – Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream Uno and Karbonn Sparkle V - did not get Lollipop update since its launch in November 2014. Now with the official announcement from Google, the long wait ended on Tuesday (24 February).
"To those with Android One phones in India, here's where we are with the over-the-air (OTA) update that will bring Android Lollipop to you soon. We've already started rolling out Lollipop to a small number of phones in India. This is a gradual process and so each week we'll push the OTA update to more phones selected at random (pro-tip: connecting over WiFi will increase your odds). We thank you again for your patience, and please stay tuned for further updates," said Caesar Sengupta Product Management Director, Google, on his official social network page.
It is yet to be ascertained whether the new update is v5.1 or the v5.0.2 OS. We believe the former (the most latest) is likely to be released as it has been already seen running on the recently launched Android One series phones in Indonesia and Philippines .
It is learnt that the new Android 5.1 Lollipop comes with improved RAM and battery management, general improvements in the system like "OK Google" and bug fixes. The most significant feature is the inclusion of the silent mode which was sorely missed in Android v5.0.
Android Lollipop OS comes with a completely re-furbished design language – 'Material design'- bringing inter-active user-interface, lots of animation graphics, replacement of Dalvik with ART as its default runtime will bring improvement in performance and battery-life enhancements.
