Android 7.1.1 Nougat rollout beginsAndroid via Twitter

After Google confirmed that its latest Android N will be called Nougat after the popular confectionary, users shifted focus from the name-guessing game to whether or not the new software will arrive for their existing smartphones. As the tradition goes, Nexus smartphones will be first ones to get the software, but there are other OEMs that guarantee a quick rollout of the latest Android updates.

There are several third-party OEMs that release the latest Android software shortly after Google releases it for Nexus series, but others take their own sweet time. After Google confirmed the name of its new mobile operating system, HTC confirmed via its official Twitter channel that three of its flagship devices will receive the Android Nougat update.

Google's own Nexus series is expected to receive Android Nougat update later this year sometime in August or early September. It means the other smartphone brands will follow Google's lead. Before you get closer to the rollout, it is necessary to know if your smartphone is eligible or not. We already covered the list of Motorola and HTC smartphones that will be receiving the Android Nougat this year, and here is a list of Sony Xperia smartphones that will be joining the league.

Below is the list of Sony smartphones that will receive Android Naugat after its release this fall:

  • Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

Android Naugat will bring series of new features and notable upgrades to the existing smartphones. It will introduce new features such as multi-window support, night mode, new emojis, Doze mode, improved file management, number blocking on the system itself, simplified screen zoom settings, emergency information feature and more.

Android Naugat, like all the previous Android versions, will be released over-the-air and an OTA notification will alert users to download the software when available.
