T-Mobile smartphone users may receive Android 7.0 Nougat update earlier than expected if all goes well. The carrier has listed over half a dozen Samsung and HTC devices as "sorted by manufacturer" for the roll-out of the new operating system.
Android 7.0 Nougat OS, released recently by Google, has been rolled out to the Nexus 6, 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, Pixel C, Nexus Player, and Android One via OTA (over-the-air). Devices from other mobile phone manufacturers are expected to get the firmware a little latter, and some may get it only next year.
Interestingly, T-Mobile has listed a few devices like Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge plus, S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, HTC 10, and HTC One M9. It said that these devices are "currently preparing to deliver a software update" and they are sorted by the manufacturer.
The carrier didn't reveal the exact release date of Android 7.0 Nougat but has given a hint that it will soon start rolling out the firmware update to its variant of select handsets. Surprisingly, HTC One A9, which has been confirmed by HTC for the software update, is yet to be listed on T-Mobile. More devices are expected to be listed soon.
It is not Google's upcoming Nexus device but the LG V20 that will be the first smartphone to be shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat. The The new operating system may soon be seeded to other devices but the update will run up to several months.
Android 7.0 Nougat comes with several new features, like customisable homescreen widgets, split screen multitasking, expanded emojis and smarter battery usage via the Doze feature. The update will also come with a Data Saver feature for data conscious users that will block background apps from accessing cellular data.
