There are indications that technology giant Google, which seeded the Android 7.0 Nougat OS update to select Nexus smartphones, could delay the rollout of the newest Android iteration to non-Nexus handsets.
Google is yet to update the official Android webpage to reflect the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. Check out the site, here.
As of now, the official Android webpage contains details of the relatively old Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
This development assumes significance when timeliness is taken into consideration. Also, it is worth noting that a majority of current Android smartphones are still stuck on Android 5.0; these are yet to receive even Android 6.0 as an OS update. Do remember that a majority of these handsets are eligible to receive newer Android OS iterations and firmware updates as and when these are released.
Currently, very little is known about the new non-Nexus Android smartphones that could be driven by Android 7.0; the yet to be released LG V20 is widely expected to be the first, new, non-Nexus handset to run Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box.
Nonetheless, Google could spring in surprises bypassing the Android 6.0 OS update for certain non-Nexus smartphones and seeding the Android 7.0 firmware update directly to these devices.
