Most of the major smartphone makers have released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to their eligible devices but OnePlus is yet to seed the firmware to its "flagship killer," the OnePlus 2. It has now made OxygenOS 3.0.1 community build for the device almost two months after the Android Marshmallow-based OxygenOS 3.0 beta was released.
OnePlus has said that the OxygenOS 3.0.1 beta is the last update before the official OTA (over-the-air) is made available. It said that the final version of the firmware should be available in the next couple of weeks via OTA.
"We appreciate everyone's feedback from the first community build. With your help we have been able to better optimize the build and improve several key areas. We would like to share with you our updated build for one last round of community feedback," reads a statement by OnePlus on the software download page (via AndroidPolice).
The OxygenOS 3.0.1 beta update will enhance Doze mode, improve fingerprint sensor, enables users to log apps, bug fix including those in OIS (camera), and display colour balance among others.
OnePlus 2 users, who want to download OxygenOS 3.0.1 beta, has to make sure that their devices runs OxygenOS 2.2 or higher. The build is available in full ROM, which means one has to flash it. So, it is recommended to back up important personal data before initiating the process.
How to flash OxygenOS 3.0.1 build on your device:
- Download the software build for your device from the firmware download page
- Connect your phone into your computer and copy the downloaded .zip to your phone. Those using a Mac can install Android File Transfer for this operation
- Reboot your phone into recovery mode. To do this, shut down your device and turn it back on while holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously
- Choose "Install from local", find your .zip file and click on "Install" to confirm
[Note: Flashing OxygenOS through a third party recovery can cause issues as it is not officially supported and fully tested. So, it is recommended to use Oxygen Recovery to update OxygenOS]
