Sony has started sending the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA (over-the-air) update to its devices after a long wait, and the first device to receive it is the Xperia Z5.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow updated has been rolled out to Sony Xperia Z5 devices in Turkey, according to a report by HDBlog (via GSMArena). It went on to say the update may come to other markets, especially Europe.
Sony is also expected to send the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to other Xperia Z5 series — Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium — any time now.
Other Sony Xperia series phones expected to get the firmware update soon are the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, as they are already under the Android 6.0 Marshmallow concept beta programme.
How to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow via OTA on your Sony Xperia Z5 device:
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow download notification will appear on your Sony Xperia Z5 screen
- Press "Download" button
- Press "Restart & Install" button
- Rebooting will begin automatically
- You will see "Installing System Update" notice when installation starts
- Upgrading begins automatically
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow will run on your device after upgrading is done
You can also manually check availability of the new software by going to – 'Settings' >> 'About phone' >> 'System updates' >> 'Check For Update'.
Sony has confirmed that over a dozen of its devices will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, and the Xperia M4 Aqua will receive it directly by skipping the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Devices that will get new firmware are the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.
