Major smartphone-makers, from LG to HTC to Motorola, have started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to their devices, both flagship and mid-range, but Sony is yet to announce a rollout. However, it is expected to release the firmware to its Xperia series very soon.
The Japanese company recently conducted a survey of those running the Concept for Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact handsets, asking how long they would stay in the trial programme. The result is positive, with over 80% of the participants saying they would stay as long as they could, according to XperiaBlog.
The report went on to say the firmware should be rolled out to Sony Xperia devices very soon. However, it is to be seen if the company includes features like power efficiency and option to remove most pre-installed apps in the final version.
Sony is yet to announce the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update schedule for its devices, but the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, which have undergone the firmware concept beta programme, should get the update first before being pushed to other handsets.
