Xiaomi Mi4 devices have reportedly started receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update via OTA (over-the-air).
The report comes just on the heels of claims made by My Drivers (via GizChina) that the Chinese smartphone-maker has completed Android 6.0 Marshmallow beta testing for Xiaomi Mi Note, and it will be rolled out to the device on Friday, 22 January.
According to a report by GeekSnipper (via GSMArena), Xiaomi Mi4 device with build number MMB29M has started receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update and the file weighs around 100 MB.
Interestingly, Xiaomi Mi4 was release in 2014 running Android 4.4.3 KitKat out of the box before getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based MIUI 7 update in October last year. It is expected to get Google's latest firmware but getting latest version -- Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow – directly was certainly not expected.
While many have said that Xiaomi Mi4 is receiving the update, the brand is yet to make a statement on the matter.
Xiaomi was said to be testing the beta version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for its devices, Mi 3, Mi 4 and Mi Note and no official announcement has been made so far on the roll out of the final version. However, several of its devices such as Xiaomi Mi4, Xiaomi Mi4i, Xiaomi Mi4c, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi Note 2 Prime, Xiaomi Mi Note Pro and Xiaomi Mi Note are expected to receive the firmware.
