Google's flagship Android One series smartphones ― Canvas A1 and Dream UNO ― have reportedly begun receiving the latest v5.1 Lollipop OS update via OTA (Over-The-Air) in India.
Smartphone maker Spice Mobile and Micromax confirmed the news on their respective Facebook pages.
"Spice Your rocking weekend starts today..
Spice rolls out Lollipop 5.1 update for Spice Dream Uno users.
Check NOW!" reads Spice Mobile's Facebook post.
Even Micromax had same thing to say and it has also provided a link to the company's website, detailing how to install the new update on their phone via OTA.
However, Google's third ― Android One ― project partner Karbonn Mobile, which sells the Sparkle V is yet to reveal the availability of the new OS update. If history is taken as any indication, the release notification is expected to be announced soon, probably in a few days.
It has to be noted that, Micromax and Spice devices, despite being part of the exclusive Android One project, they never got the Lollipop soon after the launch in November.
In January 2015, rival Xolo began rolling out the update to One series budget phone, leading to dissent among ― Canvas A1, Dream UNO and Sparkle V ― owners, who bought devices knowing Google would release updates in timely manner, but the delay by the search-engine giant made people feel betrayed by the false promise.
Now, Google has given a head-start to Android One series devices by releasing the latest 5.1 Lollipop (build number: LMY47O) to them, directly leaping two ― v5.0.2 and v5.0.1 ― stability updates.
For the uninitiated, Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop, which was released to Nexus devices in mid-November, was riddled with bugs and to fix the issues, the company rolled out two stability updates ― 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 ― thereafter.
This apparently forced a few Tier-1 brands ― Samsung, HTC and Motorola ― to reschedule the software update release programme to a month and finally released v5.0.2 update to their respective devices.
Still, there were reports of glitches present in the last (v5.0.2) update; this apparently forced the Google team to re-work on source codes and has already begun deploying new major MR (Maintenance Release) v5.1 Lollipop to Nexus and Android One devices.
But, early this week, news broke again that Nexus device owners who just got upgraded to the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop have complained that the nagging memory leak bug is still present and is wrecking the phone's performance as all the RAM space is being devoured by a handful of apps.
