Sony Xperia smartphone users were recently treated with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update and another upgrade is underway. Although unofficial, a newly leaked video picked up by Wayerless shows Sony Xperia Z3 running Google's most recent Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The latest leak reveals the major changes expected to arrive in the Xperia Z3 smartphone, which might skip Android 5.1 in favour of Android 5.1.1 software.
There are some notable changes spotted in the leaked video. Much in line with the Android 5.1 Lollipop changelog, Sony Xperia Z3 is expected to get additional options for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the notification area. Users can tap the dropdown icon under each setting to find available network or devices within the handset's range, Xperia Blog reported. In addition, the icons within the Settings menu have received a make-over to match Google's critically-acclaimed Material Design UI.
Wayerless also spotted new animations while navigating through different options on the updated Xperia Z3 and also a new Music app that replaced the iconic Walkman app.
Sony hasn't confirmed the new update nor released a timeline for rolling it out to its Xperia family. But the stable performance seen in the video suggests the update is not too far away. The Spanish publication speculates that the Android 5.1.1 for Xperia Z3 might arrive as early as this month or latest by June.
In other news, Sony has just started rolling out Android 5.0.2 to several Xperia Z smartphones, including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Users can check if the latest software is available for their handset by going to:
Settings > About Phone > System Update > Check Now
Click Install Now if the update is available for download over the air. It is advised to use a Wi-Fi connection to avoid draining your data limit.
