Huawei Mobiles confirmed to release Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Ascend Mate 2 smartphones. The phone has been released earlier this year on the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) 2014 and later rolled out for purchase.
The Ascend Mate 2, which is still available for purchase, comes with Android 4.3 Jellybean operating system and has not yet received the 4.4 Kitkat update.
Huawei Mobiles said in their blog that the flagship Ascend Mate will skip the Kitkat 4.4 update and upgrade straight to Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
"In light of your feedback, we have reassessed our upgrade strategy. We take our customers' feedback seriously and want to ensure they have the best experience possible with the Mate2. The Mate2 upgrade will go from the current JellyBean directly to Lollipop. Huawei Device is committed to providing the U.S. market with the best products, services and features, and we stand behind the Mate2 and the value it offers," said Huawei Mobiles.
"We've received word that unfortunately we will not be updating the Mate2 to Android KitKat. Our Mate2 is the first of many products we'll continue to offer in the coming months, and you can expect superior hardware with the latest software going forward," the blog added.
The Ascend Mate 2 is a 6.1-inch phablet, featuring a marathon battery and a panoramic camera. Though the Huawei official mentioned the Android 5.0 Lollipop update availability for Mate 2, they still kept quiet on other significant smartphones from the Ascend series and the recently-released Honor series.
Meanwhile, most of the other significant smartphone makers have updated about Android 5.0 Lollipop availability.
Motorola has released OTA update for their X series handset and confirmed to iterate with G and E series of devices. LG and Samsung have also confirmed Lollipop availability for selected devices while Lenovo has not guaranteed anything till date.
On the other hand, Sony has already confirmed that all their Z series handsets will get the update while Google has officially unveiled the update for all Nexus devices. And Xiaomi has released the update only for Mi2 users.
Interestingly, OEMs like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava and Gionee are still keeping mum on the issue. However, Spice has mentioned about its Android One phone's update availability.
