The much-anticipated software, Android 5.0 Lollipop was unveiled along with the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 tablet on 15 October but Google hasn't revealed the release date of the firmware. The firmware will be rolled out in November though the exact date is not know.
Google announced Android L (now Android 5.0 Lollipop) at its I/O conference in June this year before unveiling it in mid-October.
Several smartphone makers have confirmed that their high-end devices will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update once it is released. Some devices may get the update as soon as it is launched while others may get months later.
It is reported that Google Nexus devices will get the firmware update first. Android Police reported citing reliable sources that Wi-Fi versions of 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update on 3 November, while cellular devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7 with LTE will take a little longer. However, nothing is confirmed as of now.
Motorola has confirmed that the new software will be rolled out to its devices like Moto X (Gen 2.), Moto X (Gen 1.), Moto G (Gen 2.), Moto G (Gen 1.), Moto G 4G-LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini. The company said that they are still working on upgrade schedule but it is very likely to come a few months after Google releases it.
Samsung Electronics has confirmed that its recently device, the Galaxy Note 4, will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update but it is still not sure if the Galaxy S5 will get it. Zenfone has confirmed on its official blog that its devices - Zenfone series 4, 5, 6, and Padfone S (PF500KL) will get the firmware update in April 2015, while Padfone Infinity (A89) will get in June.
LG device LG G is expected to get the new software, though the company is yet to confirm. A report by CNet claimed that LG G3 and G2 Pro, the G2 and original G Pro might to get the firmware update. Meanwhile, Dutch technology blog TechTastic has confirmed citing regional senior LG representatives that LG G3 will get the new firmware in Belgium and Netherlands by December end.
OnePlus One handset will get the new software update within three months of its release. Mike, administrator of OnePlus forum, has confirmed that the firmware will be rolled out to the device.
Taiwanese electronics giant, HTC, has confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolled out to HTC One, HTC One (M8), One Mini (1 & 2) and One Max within 90 days of its release. It is also reported that other devices like Desire Eye, Butterfly 2, One E8 (both single and dual-SIM variants), Mini 2, Desire 816, HTC One Max, One Mini (Gen 1), Butterfly (Gen 2) and MediaTek CPU powered Desire series smartphones will get the new software update.
Sony has confirmed that its devices, Xperia Z Ultra GPE (Google Play Edition), Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet, Xperia Tablet Z, and Xperia Z2 Tablet will get the new software.
