Nexus device users must be eagerly waiting to get Android 5.0 Lollipop update with Google officially releasing the new software after months of speculation. The firmware should be available for download anytime, as its over-the-air (OTA) update has been rolled out.
Google announced Android 5.0 Lollipop at its I/O conference in June and unveiled it on 15 October before finally releasing on 3 November. The new software will be seen in the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9.
Google has started over-the-air update of Android 5.0 Lollipop for Nexus devices but it didn't specify the date these devices will get it. So, the Nexus 4, the Nexus 5, the Nexus 7 (2012), the Nexus 7 (2013), the Nexus 10 and Google Play edition devices may get the software update any time and in no particular order. It is reported that roll out of the new software may take a couple of weeks.
Users of Nexus and Google Play edition devices can check if your handset is eligible for the software upgrade by going to "About Phone" menu under Settings app, where upgrade option will be found in "Software Updates" menu.
To check if Android 5.0 Lollipop update is available for your device, go to Settings-->About--> Phone Software updates-->Check now. You may also get a notification if the firmware update is available to your device.
Android 5.0 Lollipop is considered to be the search giant's biggest update to its mobile platform till date. The redesigned interface, fluid animations and other features of the firmware will give a new experience to android phone users. The new UI design dubbed as Material Design, Notifications Panel change, transparent background etc may please gadget lovers. The new software will also be compatible with 64-bit processors and improve battery life.
Devices that will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update:
Motorola has confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolled out to Moto X (Gen 2.), Moto X (Gen 1.), Moto G (Gen 2.), Moto G (Gen 1.), Moto G 4G-LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini though it didn't specify the time.
Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy Note 4 will get the new firmware, and the Galaxy S5 will most probably get the upgrade. Zenfone has confirmed on its official blog that its devices - Zenfone series 4, 5, 6, Padfone S (PF500KL) and Padfone Infinity (A89) will get the software in June. It is also confirmed that OnePlus One handset will get the new firmware update within three months of its release.
LG device LG G3 will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update. It is also reported that LG G, G2 Pro, the G2 and original G Pro might to get the firmware update. HTC, has confirmed that the new software will be rolled out to HTC One, HTC One (M8), One Mini (1 & 2) and One Max within 90 days of its release. There are also reports that devices like Desire Eye, Butterfly 2, One E8 (both single and dual-SIM variants), Mini 2, Desire 816, HTC One Max, One Mini (Gen 1), Butterfly (Gen 2) and MediaTek CPU powered Desire series smartphones will get the new software update.
Sony has confirmed that its devices, Xperia Z Ultra GPE (Google Play Edition), Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet, Xperia Tablet Z, and Xperia Z2 Tablet will get the new software.
