The mobile arm of the consumer electronics giant, Sony on Tuesday (9 September) officially released the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to select flagship Xperia Z series smartphones and Tablet.
The company confirmed the news via its official Twitter page that the new 4.4.4 KitKat has been rolled out to Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Go to Settings >> About phone >> Build number / version
The new software (build number: 10.5.1.A.0.283 for Xperia Z) is said to bring in enhancements like battery life, Wi-Fi-connectivity, UI interface, bug fix and other improvements.
[Note: Since the roll-out process is carried out in phases, it might take a while for some remote regions to receive the new update].

- Upgrade to Android 4.4.4
- Better battery performance in some background applications
- Email stability and performance enhanced
- General improvements to MMS, Calendar, Wi-Fi, Contacts and More
- All the latest bug fixes and enhancements
This is a welcome sign from Sony, as the company is one of the two tier-1 brands (other is Motorola) to have released the latest Android v4.4.4 KitKat to its devices. Rivals Samsung and HTC are still rolling out v4.4.2/v4.4.3 version updates to their devices.
The company has already released the same firmware update to Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Z1 and Z Ultra [Read full report here].
