Google has commenced rolling out its Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS update to its LG G Pad 8.3 and HTC One Google Play Edition handsets.
Both updates are currently available Over The Air (OTA) but users can still check for manual updates if they missed out the update notification. The Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS update for tablet takes up 56MB size, which is similar to other Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS updates made available for other Nexus devices.
HTC also posted the kernel source and framework support files for its HTC One Google Play Edition, soon after which the reports of update rolling out surfaced, reported Droid Life.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, which came out along with the HTC One Google Play Edition, has already received the Android update, according to Gazelle.
List of Devices Receiving the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS Upgrade
Till now, only the Google Nexus devices have received the Kitkat OS Update, which is now trickling down to other OEMs such as Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony and others. Many other handsets are yet to receive the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.
Following is the list of devices which are expected to receive the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.
Motorola: Motorola has clarified its Kitkat update plans for its Droid Maxx and Moto G handset, saying that the devices will be upgraded in January 2014. The Moto X users, however, already have the update. Some of the other old Motorola devices which are expected to get the Kitkat OS updates are Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, Droid Razr, Electrify and Atrix. To check for a particular handset, the user can go to the company's Upgrade website.
HTC: It has been reported that HTC One will receive its Kitkat Update by the end of January (the Google Play Edition is already getting the Updates). After HTC One, other models such as HTC One Mini, HTC One Max and HTC Droid DNA will be getting the updates. However, the firm has said that HTC One X users would be missing out the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.
Samsung: Samsung's Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition reportedly received the updates a week ago, however, nothing concrete has been announced regarding its other wide range of handset models.
Sony: Sony has revealed that its Xperia Z, Z1, ZL, Z Ultra and Tablet Z will be getting the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS. Nothing is said regarding its other devices, reports PC World.
LG: No Kitkat updates are expected for the LG handsets until March 2014 when the LG G2 will get bumped up to Kitkat. Otherwise, the firm hasn't made any announcements for other devices.
Other: Other smartphones and tablets which are more than 18 months old will not get the Kitkat OS upgrade, which includes Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and Droid Bionic.
