At least 35 passengers were injured when a bus overturned in Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours of Friday, November 22. However, no casualties were reported at the time of filing the report but all the passengers sustained injuries.
This incident took place at Acchampeta junction in Kakinada rural Mandal of East Godavari district. "An APSRTC bus from Malkipuram to Visakhapatnam was crossing a four road junction at Acchampeta village at around 2 am. A lorry from Telangana was returning after unloading at Kakinada port to Sattupalli in Khammam district and reached the same junction. The lorry hit the back tyre of the bus from behind. The bus which was about to take a left turn, overturned. The lorry driver immediately absconded from the spot," Timmapuram Sub Inspector Vijay Babu told news ANI.
FIR registered, case lodged
When the accident happened, there were 35 persons on the bus including four bus staff. All of them sustained injuries and were taken to the government hospital in Kakinada. A four-year-old boy and his mother met with severe injuries.
An FIR was registered by Timmapuram police and also a case has been lodged under Sections 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is on and police are searching for the lorry driver. They have seized the lorry.
Meanwhile, transport minister Perni Venkatramaiah talked with the transport and RTC officials about the accident. He ordered them to provide the best medical care to the injured passengers.
