Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan unveiled the historic bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi in London. British Prime Minister David Cameron and Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley accompanied the actor during this extraordinary moment.
Big B wrote about this proud moment on his blog. "I am so touched and honoured to have been given this pride of place (sic) at this most prestigious occasion ... one that has truly been historic in many senses ..." he said.
The statue of Mahatma Gandhi stood at London's Parliament Square, next to one of UK's most successful prime ministers, Winston Churchill, who had once famously ridiculed the Indian leader.
The statue is said to be symbolic of Indo-UK ties. "The statue in Parliament Square not only marks his huge importance in the history of both our countries, but will enrich the firm bond of friendship between the world's oldest democracy and its largest," Cameron had said last month.
Meanwhile, Bachchan expressed his joy on receiving such an honour via Twitter.
