'Banega Swachh India', an initiative to clean India and ensure hygiene, is getting popular each day.
The brand ambassador of the campaign, Amitabh Bachchan, and journalist Vikram Chandra hosted the 12-hour, live televised cleanathon event organised by news channel NDTV and hygiene brand Dettol from 9am to 9pm on 14 December.
The event was graced by many celebs, including Shashi Tharoor, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Kapoor, Govinda, Dia Mirza, Tusshar Kapoor, Boman Irani and Javed Akhtar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Bachchan for his live cleanathon "'Banega Swachh India" campaign.
"I appreciate @ndtv and @SrBachchan for the 'Banega Swachh India' campaign, to address aspects related to hygiene and sanitation. @swachhindia," Modi tweeted on Sunday.
"Scale of mobilisation & long term planning make @swachhindia a distinctive & definitive effort towards Clean India. Best wishes #swachhindia," PM tweeted.
Earlier, Modi had launched "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" ("Clean India" campaign) on 2 October to make India clean by 2019. The campaign also partners with NGOs to construct and maintain toilets in India.
