Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with another international award. The 70-year-old actor has been presented with the Global Diversity Award 2013 at the State Room of Britain's House of Commons.
The award was presented by Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP. During the ceremony, Bercow praised Big B saying, "He is a role model and most famous Indian film star of all time and he deserves the award," according to Press Trust of India.
The award ceremony was chaired by Rt Hon Keith Vaz, MP, Chairman and Home Affairs Select Committee. British actor and film producer Hugh Grant also attended the award ceremony which was chaired by Rt Hon Keith Vaz, MP, Chairman and Home Affairs Select Committee..
Amitabh was overwhelmed with love and joy to receive the award. He also thanked people from the UK and also his family members for their support.
"The Honourable Speaker at the House of Commons in the British Parliament opens up his historic home inside the Houses of Parliament in London to welcome me for the Global Diversity Award, which incidentally has been presented to a rather small number of dignitaries, worldwide," he wrote on his blog.
"Last night at the Houses of British Parliament, an Award presented to me by the Speaker at his Home inside Parliament, a 1000 year old structure, historic iconic, ... a rare privilege and honour .. Global Diversity Award !! Thank you to all my well wishers, that have supported, loved, prayed, encouraged me in this journey of mine."
He was also the Guest of Honour for the Charity on Diabetes that was hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron's wife, Samantha Cameron.
The charity was held at 10 Downing Street, which has been home to British prime ministers for more than 275 years.
"At the historic and iconic 10, Downing Street as Guest of Honour for the Charity on Diabetes," Amitabh said on Twitter.
