"America's Got Talent" Season 11 semifinals is here. A total of 11 acts, comprising singers, dancers, magicians and comedians hit the stage in semifinals week 1 live performance on Tuesday with the hope of advancing to the next round. It was a good show with some wonderful performances but only five of them will advance to the finals.
Recap of "America's Got Talent" Semifinals Week 1:
Sal Valentinetti (Jazz Singer): He performed "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra. He received a standing ovation from Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum. It was a good rendition.
Blake Vogt (Magician): He earned the praises of the judges with a close-up card trick which he called "invisibility" before disappearing into the balcony. It was perhaps his best performance ever in the show, like some judges pointed out, but not sure it could take him to the next round.
Edgar (Family Band): They performed "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. There were shaky moments with the daughter mistiming once, but it was a good performance overall. They received a standing ovation from the judges.
Lori Mae Hernandez (Standup Comedian): Judges were all praise for the 13-year-old standup comedian, but it wasn't a good performance.
Musicality (school choir): They rendered Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." It was a decent performance and seemed to have failed to impress the judges.
Deadly Games (Knife Throwing Duo): The husband and wife duo received a standing ovation from Mel B and Neidi Klum for their breath-taking stunts. In fact, Mel B described it as the best performance of the night.
Tape Face (Comedic Mime): He did a balloon act in the semifinals, but it wasn't anywhere close to funny or interesting, at least to me. It could be his last appearance in the show.
Jon Dorenbos (Close-up Magician): The Philadelphia Eagles star received a standing ovation from the judges for his magical game performance. Simon described it as the "most incredible thing I have seen on one of these shows."
Grace VanderWaal (Singer-songwriter/Ukelelist): She got a standing ovation from the judges for her rendition of her original song "Light The Sky." Howie said that the world knows she could win the competition.
Malevo (Malambo Group): The dance troupe gave a startling performance and audience seemed to love it. They got a standing ovation from all the judges.
Laura Bretan (Opera Singer): The 14-year-old performed "Pie Jesu", receiving a standing ovation from the judges. Simon said that something could be terribly wrong if she is not voted to the finals.
All the acts performed well on Tuesday night, but Grace VanderWaal, Laura Bretan, Deadly Games, and Malevo stood out from the lot.
