In a latest nude stunt by tourists that has sparked outrage in Cambodia, two sisters from America have been arrested for taking naked pictures of each other inside the country's famous Angkor temple complex.
According to a statement by the Apsara Authority – the government agency that manages the Angkor complex -- the sisters, 22-year-old Lindsey Adams and 20-year-old Leslie, were caught taking "nude pictures" of each other inside the Preah Khan temple at the heritage site on Friday.
"The two tourists admitted that they really made a mistake by taking nude photos," the statement read, according to Straits Times.
Apsara Authority spokesperson Chau Sun Kerya said that the women's actions were offensive as the site is considered to be a holy place by many.
"Perhaps they did not know Angkor is a holy site. But their inappropriate activities affect the sanctity of the place," she told AFP.
According to Keat Bunthan, a senior heritage police official in northwestern Siem Reap province said that the two women were being interrogated by officers.
"They lowered their pants to their knees and took pictures of their buttocks," he said. He added that it is still not clear as to what charges the tourist pair will face.
Earlier, in a similar case, three French men received a suspended six-month prison sentence on two charges; namely public exposure and making pornography. They have been banned from entering Cambodia for four years.
The trio was apprehended after a number of pictures of some Asian women posing naked at the Cambodian temples surfaced online. The nude images went viral in no time. This irked the Cambodian authority who pledged to take action against the culprits.
