As "American Horror Story" Season 4 gears up for filming, buzz about Sarah Paulson's character has intensified. The season 4 of FX's horror anthology is called "American Horror Story: Freak Show" and will have Paulson playing the most challenging character of her life till date.
"Oh Boy, it's not going to disappoint!" Paulson said about her character during an interview with Gold Derby. "I know lots ... I do know a lot of things ... I really think people are not going to be disappointed. And, it's going to be very different than last year ... in all the best ways."
Reports are rife that Paulson has literally pushed herself as an actor for the new season. She will be seen playing a freak show performer and for the role she has undergone rigorous training and has learnt a new skill.
Show creator Ryan Murphy has further suggested that Paulson's character is the most exciting character he has ever created and he is anxious.
However, Paulson feels that no character is as tough as playing Lana Winters in "American Horror Story: Asylum." Winters was a lesbian journalist, who aimed to expose Briarcliff's darkest secrets in Season 2 of "American Horror Story".
"It was twofold: One, when I had to simulate performing an abortion on myself, and two, playing a 75-year-old woman. That was very hard. And it was very important to me to kind of hold on to who the character of Lana Winters was as an older person, not just go into a kind of caricature. Also, I had the crazy makeup on that was terrifying, and I sent the photograph to my mother, and I was like: 'I guess you'll never see this. This is me at 75!'" she said.
Meanwhile, lead star Jessica Lange will be seen playing German expat who is speculated to be the manager of the freak show group in US.
The shooting of "American Horror Story" takes place in New Orleans, though the storyline is based in Jupiter, Florida. The show is set in 1950's era.
"American Horror Story" season 4 "Freak Show" cast will include Paulson alongside Kathy Bates, Lange, Angela Bassett, Michale Chiklis, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Denis O'Hare, Gabrouey Sidibe, and Jamie Brewer.
