American e-commerce giant, Amazon has launched the company's new Kindle Paperwhite e-reader device in India.
New Kindle Paperwhite (2013) made its debut in US in late September. It sports 6.0-inch screen with high contrast E Ink Carta display technology with a pixel density of 212 ppi (pixels per inch) and is powered by a 1GHz CPU with high capacity battery, which can run for weeks once fully charged.
It ships with new Kindle OS v5.4.2 with integration to an online community forum, Goodreads, where in a user can capture and share the favourite quotes as well as publish their reviews and ratings of a book.
Other notable feature is the FreeTime application that enables parents to create personalized profiles for kids and give them access to titles from their collections. Children will be rewarded with achievement badges to encourage them to read books. It also helps elders to monitor their kid's activity and total time spent on the device as well.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite comes in two variants - one a Wi-Fi only model and another 3G+Wi-Fi variant for ₹10,999 and ₹13,999 respectively. The devices will be released in the market on 4 February. Prospective buyers who like to jump the queue can pre-book Amazon products at the company's official online store.
