After weeks of speculations, American technology giant Amazon took the wraps off the eighth generation Kindle e-reader series dubbed the Oasis in Seattle, April 13.
The new Amazon Kindle Oasis is the slimmest e-reader compared to all other previous generation models. It measures just 3.4 mm thick at the edge and weighs 133 g.
Despite featuring such a sleek body, it houses a massive battery, wherein a single charge can last for over eight weeks. To further boost the battery life, Amazon has equipped an additional cell in the cover. The smart cover will automatically start charging Kindle Oasis, once they get attached.
"To lean back and read for hours, you need a sanctuary from distraction," Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO, said in a statement.
"We want Kindle to disappear, and Kindle Oasis is the next big step in that mission. It's the most advanced Kindle we've ever built—thin and ultra-lightweight, it gets out of the way so you can lose yourself in the author's world," Bezos added.
Another key aspect of Kindle Oasis is its display. It boasts high resolution Paperwhite screen with "E Ink Carta" technology. The company has incorporated 60 percent more LEDs in the device's display to make it brighter, so that there will be less stress on the readers' eyes.
