Days after news of celebrity couple Amala Paul and AL Vijay parting ways hit the headlines, the actress officially filed for divorce in a family court on Saturday, Aug. 6. A source close to the couple confirmed to International Business Times India that she has filed the papers in a Chennai court.
"Amala has just filed for the divorce in Chennai and they are expected to make an official statement soon. Amala's family as well as Vijay were also present at the court," a source told IBTimes India. Industry tracker Nikkil Murugan also revealed the news via his Twitter page. "Its confirm now, Amalapaul is filing divorce in familycourt in few mins, through her advocate Mr. Saib Jose Kidangoor [sic]," Nikkil posted.
The couple, who got married on June 12, 2014, is now heading for divorce putting an end to their marriage of two years. Even though Amala hasn't addressed the media on the matter yet, the "Madrasapattinam" director recently released a press statement, in which he confirmed that they were getting separated due to certain reasons, which only Vijay knows.
Vijay also claimed that his father and film producer AL Alagappan made certain statements against Amala on a news channel as he was pained with the unpleasant developments in their family life. "The new found accusations that me or my family were stopping her from work is completely untrue," Vijay noted.
However, Vijay did hint that he decided to end his relationship with Amala as his wife has broken his trust and was dishonest. The couple, who worked together in the Tamil films "Deiva Thirumagal" and "Thalaivaa," got married after dating for three years.
